Metal Roofs have been in existence for a very long time but aside from auxiliary roofs they have been used primarily in commercial applications. One of  metal's biggest drawbacks was due to rust deterioration, however in recent years better quality steel is finding its way into the residential market as the main roof with a promise of durability comparable with slate.
